Malkerson Gallery 408 sponsors an ongoing public art project named The Burro Serenade. Since the project’s start in 2006, more than seventy-five artists from Lincoln County have participated, archiving a history of the artists in our broader area. Burros have been purchased by individuals, families and businesses and traveled to new homes in New Mexico and throughout the United States. Current count has the painted burros residing in more than twenty U.S. states.
The Town of Carrizozo boasts no less than twenty-eight burros donated to businesses and parks, which stand on walls, rooftops and garden paths, and are enjoyed by many visitors and photographers. A walk around Carrizozo will likely reveal a multitude of burro sightings! The herd grows each year … Below are pictured 10 Bodacious Burros we love …
